Why are people VTCing [status-completed] posts as no longer reproducible
3
14:26
The bug report was completed. It did not become obsolete.
13:59
@Starship No, it's not. The bug was fixed, which solved the issue. It wasn't rendered obsolete by the system moving on. We don't close all bugs that have been fixed as not reproducible. Once it has a status tag, then closing as "no longer reproducible" is not an appropriate action; the close reason is for bugs and FRs that have become obsolete without being fixed or otherwise addressed. Bugs and FRs with status tags are not considered "pending" anymore, and so closing them does nothing useful.

@EmmaBee Well, I agree that we need some way to stop trolls & spammers from invading. But it's very frustrating when you spot a new member who seems genuine who could benefit from a chat conversation, but who doesn't have enough rep to chat.

Moving it to SU was the kindest option, downvotes don't count and OP could get an answer
Tue 18:57
@StarshipRemembersShadow It's been established for many years at this point that posting questions that theoretically are about the entire network are on-topic on child metas. Users are not required to venture beyond the boundaries of their site to discuss issues that affect their usage of the site.

To make something clear: When it comes to suspended or deleted users, chat is not the place for speculation on what happened or opining on whether it was deserved or not. That is between the affected user and the CM team, and discussing it here accomplishes nothing except fearmongering. Please do not continue to bring such discussions up here.

Q: Concluding the Answer Assistant experiment

Cesar MOn Tuesday, April 29, 2025, we ended the Answer Assistant experiment on the Stack Exchange sites where it was running - Raspberry Pi, Arts & Crafts, and User Experience. We greatly appreciate the willingness of those sites (and Web Applications that began the journey with us) to experiment with w...

I will say: The situation sucks. I'm sad about the whole thing. I'd appreciate if we recognized that, while we can speculate wildly, we refrain from doing so partially out of respect for Shadow and partially because there's really not much to base speculation off of. Remember Shadow fondly. I'm sure we all thank him for what he's done here as one of our longstanding members.

you have to take a screenshot of it, which you can't do while reporting the ad so you have to cancel the report, take a screenshot, save it somewhere, modify it so it's small enough to be accepted iwth the report, then open the report process again

Q: Results of the March 2025 Community Asks Sprint

FrogThe March Community Asks Sprint has concluded! As this was the third Community Asks Sprint, we’re starting to hit our stride. We were able to put forth critical design work for a variety of issues and fully address many more during this two-week sprint. Some of those issues were picked up from th...

Q: A Gamified Coding Challenge Feature for Stack Overflow? We Want Your Feedback!

TomisthemovieI’m Tom, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager at Stack Overflow. I first joined in 2015 when Joel was running the show, spent a few years here, and then boomeranged back in 2021. I primarily support hiring for the Product, Engineering, Design, and Community teams, but lately, I've had the opportun...

Q: Upcoming initiatives on Stack Overflow and across the Stack Exchange network - April 2025

DesToday, I shared an update on progress from last quarter and what we’re up to this quarter on the blog. Community Products development teams are focused on delivering against outcomes, which are organized around strategic initiatives. With this approach, teams may test many different solutions, wi...

Yeah I would like to say broadly, all Stackers should feel welcome to drop by the Tavern and say hi if they want. It helps make the company feel more alive and connected.

Look at Shadow being all diplomatic, things are certainly changing around here 😛

Mar 14 08:58
@Starship Okay, here is the deal. The onus is on you to make the advertisement of your app clear and worth keeping. Voters need to be convinced that your app with its AI (which might put off voters in the first place, given the sentiment) solve an actual problem, specially if you plan on letting it lose on its own in the future. That scares the shit out of people and I don't blame them.

If you were experiencing issues with the survey banner reappearing it seems to be fixed now (at least on my machine/phone...famous last words). You may need to dismiss it one more time for it to stick. This is still cookie based so it is domain and device specific

@EmmaBee personally, it was kind of offputting to see new people drop into SO's meta room and suddenly try to spawn a discussion about some tech topic or ask what country I'm in, but that's because I'm used to just seeing the same faces in the room all the time, and I avoid putting personal info in chat.

Apr 3 18:04
Hey all! As I think most know, the Chat experiment has been going and I am wondering if anyone had any feedback or observations on things that have happened. Any surprising or positive experiences by new comers joining? Anything less than ideal? Free to share anything you have noticed.

@EmmaBee You can always go with "Dearest Denizens of the Lands of Meta!" -- I'm pretty sure the greeting remover isn't smart enough to catch that

Mar 21 03:59
I really, really want to empower the voices of Meta. They matter. Obviously I think that. Our feedback is important. Why else would I continue to post here and try to make a difference? But I know that the company's felt pretty scathingly hurt by some of the stuff Meta has said and done. Ironically, it's a lot like the unfriendliness problem on Stack Overflow.
