Pentatonix's Scott Hoying Wrote His Grammy-Nominated Song as an ‘Anniversary Gift’ for His Husband (Exclusive)

PentatonixsingerScott Hoying’sGrammy-nominated song has a sweet backstory.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, PEOPLE spoke to the musician, 33, on the2025 Grammysred carpet about his meaningful track, “Rose Without the Thorns,” which is nominated for best arrangement, instrumental or a cappella at the awards show.

Appearing alongside his husband Mark Manio, Hoying revealed he was “nervous” about the nomination.

“It’s my first time having a solo original song that I wrote about [Mark] as an anniversary gift,” he says. “To be nominated — as just Scott — is wild.”

Hoying also opened up about his first memory of the Grammys.

“I tried to sneak into this venue for an awards show when I was in college, so it’s just a wild progression of everything that came and everything that manifested in my life and our lives. And I feel really present this time, and I’m so happy to be here,” says Hoying.

Hoying and Manio sharedtheir July 2023 weddingexclusively with PEOPLE. The couple tied the knot on Friday in an intimate, star-studded black-tie ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara in Santa Barbara, California after six years of dating.

“I feel like all of our life experiences and choices, and ups and downs, have led us to each other and this is the moment where the people we love most get to see us truly make the leap,” Hoying told PEOPLE. “I knew pretty early on that Mark was my dream man and I genuinely feel like the luckiest man on earth to get to marry him.”

The pair said that in planning their wedding, they wanted a “timeless, unique experience,” and felt drawn to Santa Barbara after previously celebrating Manio’s birthday in the seaside locale.
