Projects

  • Leyden Street Toys

    - Present

Leyden is a website that develops historical and global competencies in elementary students through game-based learning. I designed and developed responsive web interfaces (in HTML/CSS/jQuery) and evaluated human-computer-interaction with the tool. Leyden Street Toys was created as part of David Khale's course Advanced Design Studio, which covers topics on design theory such as systems design, human-centered design, and their intersection with educational product development.

I was honored as a Microsoft Public Sector Global Hero in Education for my commitment to the field of education. This award highlights my commitment to learning, access, and localized innovation in schools. • Course Development: An Exploration of the Creation of MOOCs

    -

This project describes the role of course developers more narrowly by outlining their
responsibilities and skills. This was achieved through research on the individuals working in these roles at four institutions across the edX Consortia, and in contrast with the role of a more traditional university or corporate-based instructional designer. These findings are summarized in a blog series to be published in Inside Higher Education in early 2015. This project was created in partnership with…

  • Educators and Twitter: the Power of Personal Learning Networks and Connected Educators

    -

In this project I conducted a social network analysis of more than 2000 tweets shared by educators surrounding education and connected learning. This data-science based analysis considered a wide range of measures of these teacher relationships – including betweenness centrality, significance, dependency, and their reciprocal nature – to determine the value of online learning for educators. This was conducted as part of Charles Lang's class Data Science in Education.

  • Emote

    -

Emote is a system built to aid teachers in their response to students' social-emotional needs. I designed a prototype in InVision Apps, and facilitated user-testing to iterate on our project. Emote was created as part of David Dockterman's course Innovating by Design: Projects in Educational Technology, which covers topics such as rapid prototyping, wire-framing, and agile product development.

  • Lifelong Teacher Network

    -

The Lifelong Teacher Network is a support and professional development network for new or struggling teachers. As a member of this project team I designed online teacher professional development and classroom curricula through testing and prototyping. Such support and development is built around Constructionist Theory, and was developed as a project for Karen Brennan's course Designing for Learning by Creating.

  • Understanding Parental Involvement & Parent-School Relationships in a Public School Context

    -

A semester-long qualitative study of parental-involvement, parent-school relationships, and their relationship to child-school needs. This was conducted at a primary school, alongside their Family and Community School Specialist, as part of Stuart Greene's course Seminar on Educational Research.
