English Language & Usage: Multi-Layer

Not for the faint of heart or those easily triggered by English (or other languages) in the raw. That doesn't mean we want to talk about YouTube comments or hemorrhoids or other such topics.

@Vikas That's sad! I should continue abstaining from reading news.

But anyone who maintains their vehicle well, every 3000 miles, is an adult. Paying for your own maintenance, basically, that's the gold standard of adulthood.

@GratefulDisciple Every expert in every field probably can relate to the frustration at the ego of a dude who's read two posts on Reddit and prepared dumb rhetorical questions like a magazine clip to challenge years of study and training. It's just that in light of the libertarian crackheads in charge of America medical personnel are sorta in the spotlight

I, however, obviously belong to the other camp. I think that nurses and doctors were tired of debating scientific rigorousness which the hippies and vegans in the ICU. So they dance along until patients stop complaining so they can do their job with some peace of mind.

The first time I saw a besom was in Paris, by the Louvre along the Seine. It was in the early '80s.

Because the poem is so great, I can remember where I was when I was memorizing it.

@TwineeeTheZeldaWizard It's unfortunate for you that @tchrist closed your question. There is surely a factual question in there, but as it stands you question is way too unserious, breezy, and will elicit lots of opinionated answers. If you can rewrite it to be more serious, that would go a long way to getting it reopened.

It's all about time and priorities, I'm afraid. Cannot justify it at the moment. Plus, isn't Slavic language a lot different than Germanic / Romance language? I survived learning English language, where my mother language is not even in this Indo-European & Uralic family tree.

Today's observation: If you carry a cup of coffee far enough, you will eventually get a rogue wave in your cup.

So they're arresting judges in America now?
May 1 14:41
Whereas, "He didn't use to get angry ..." is said by nobody anywhere, except in crappy "grammar" books. Everybody would use the past tense: used. "He didn't used to get angry," though, while acceptable, is probably more words than most would say in conversation.
Apr 21 16:48
@Robusto there is a specific way to carry a full coffee mug that prevents rogue waves

@Robusto As a good illustration of a natural (but more than strictly necessary) finger/hand movement I mentioned here, see the accompanist for the Mozart Violin Sonata video that @Cerberus was sharing a few days ago. The first 2 minutes is sufficient for one to see.
Apr 29 21:40
@Robusto Thanks; good, wise advice. Gotta to start my Canadian gang now (I moved) so it can be decades-long by the time I reach 85. At least I have you guys for an online gang. On #10, I'll modify the instruction to Mozart, Bach, or Beethoven. Which reminds me, here's Symphony No. 2 and here's an analysis from Eastman.

It's a song for everyone. And just for you.

I mean Americans are weird. You guys like coffee a lot so you drink it at 2 a.m. then someone else carries your tired body back home.

@skullpatrol you're in the gang of people who don't join gangs

Maybe the question should go on META. In fact, in the recent survey done by SE (I think it was SE), they asked: How can we improve chats? And I said, by allowing flags that don't go network wide. It seems that comments flagged in chats do go network wide at the moment.

So I avoid the news as best I can.

@skullpatrol We have a network-wide spammer who's been assaulting many of our sites daily for around six months now using a brand new set of six to eight coördinated socks once or thrice daily. Our fastest way to stop him in his tracks is for community members to pile on the R/A flags against every such post. When this does NOT happen right away, the problem becomes worse and more damage in various guises is done, requiring longer and more careful cleanup by mods.

@TwineeeThePickleWizard ya see here sometimes ya gotta follow the thread back a few. in the screenshot he posted it was not exactly a job notice but rather an advertising cover... and it mentioned 'growth marketing'. And then he followed up your 'what?' with 'gross marketing' which the ad was, it was kinda gross. Your response about hacking some snot was a good save though. Despite hacking producing tracheal phlegm through the mouth and not nasal mucous out the nostrils.
Apr 18 15:46
@TwineeeThePickleWizard If you insist :-). My kid sometimes says "I'm stupid", so I gently remind them they're not, that they cannot use it as an excuse not to learn.
