Introduction

Welcome to GNU/Linux on SEGA Dreamcast! In this project we are not only porting Linux/SH kernel to Dreamcast, but also developing bootloader and custom distribution that enable a stand-alone GNU/Linux system on your Dreamcast.

Following pages are currently available. Most pages are obsolete, will be revised before long.

Boot-up screen on kernel fbcon. X Window System (XFree86 3.3.6). xdm login screen on XF86_FBDev.
Running X clients: twm, xterm, XMAME (arcade game emulator). Running jstest on the joystick devices. Currently Dreamcast controller and Racing Controller are connected.

Here are photographs taken at our booth in .Org pavilion of LinuxWorld Expo/Tokyo 2001.

The BP DC's screen after power-on. First eCos+RedBoot runs to load kernel and initrd images from CD. Now Linux kernel is booting up and mounting CD of Debian userland. It's a complete stand-alone system.
You can play XMAME (arcade game emulator) with the controller. Prboom (yet another DOOM executable) on SDL.
XMAME on X11. The SDL version of XMAME is also provided. Login screen of xdm.
